How To Choose a Drum Set
Choosing a drum set should be based on your own individual requirements.
If you already are an experienced drummer, the chances are that you will already know what you are looking for. However if you are just starting out, picking a drum set can be a little more daunting.
There is no point spending a few thousand dollars on a set of drums if you are a beginner drummer. There are 2 reasons as to why you should not spend that amount of money right at the beginning.
The first is that at this point in time you may really want to get good at playing the drums, but you won't know if you are going to feel the same way 6 or 12 months down the road. If you lose interest in drum playing, you will have spent a lot of money by buying an expensive drum kit that you are never going to get back.
The second thing for a beginner drummer is that you will only improve if you practice. You can practice just as easily on a cheaper or used drum set, as you could on a very expensive model. So it would be wise to choose a mid range drum kit which will not break the bank.
The only problem with a very basic set of drums is that in most cases you will not be able to upgrade parts of it, and you will probably have to buy another once you have out grown it. This is why I recommend a mid range set of drums, because you can add to it by changing cymbals, bass drum, and so on. This way the drum kit that you have purchased will be able to grow with you as your skill levels improve.
The other choice that you have to make is whether you want an acoustic drum set or an electronic drum set.
This is entirely your choice, but most people when they start to learn to play drums, do so because they like the feeling of raw energy of hitting an acoustic drum kit, and this is the way that beginner drum players start.
Another thing to take into consideration when choosing a drum set is from where you should get it.
