Violin is a musical instrument having four strings.It is one of the smallest musical instruments of the violin family of the string instruments such as cello and viola. This word comes from the Latin word vitula,which means stringed instrument.A person who plays this instrument is called violinist.In some cases,fiddle is the word that has been called informally to violin.Most of its parts are made of wood and the string is made up of gut,nylon, steel string and synthetic. The origin of the musical instrument was modernized during the 16th century in Italy.During the 18th and 19th century, this musical instrument was modified a lot and it got momentum during this period.
The sound is produced from this instrument by using a bow across one or more strings.Moreover,the violinists use different techniques to play this instrument perfectly.
Mechanics of violin:
This musical instrument is made up of different items such as neck, maple ribs, bridge,spruce and strings.Its shape is very innovative and effective. The hourglass shape contains particular parts such as upper bouts, lower bouts and concave.Its shape completely depends on the wood it is made up of.Thus,violin is the most sought after musical instrument.It comprises of fingerboard, pegbox,scroll, upper bout,neck, waist, bridge, chinrest, lower bout and others.
The bows play a vital role in producing sounds from the violin.Bows are usually made up of stick with the ribbon of the horsehair between the nuts. A usual bow may be 29 inches and weigh about 60 gm. Moreover,people must be aware of the mechanism of this instrument to make more pleasant sound.
Instrument care:
Initially, make sure that you play this musical instrument in a perfect manner.Moreover,it is very necessary that you are aware about its mechanism. It is very useful that you handle it freely and properly. Tighten the bow before using it over to play this musical instrument. Try to avoid too much taut of the bow hairs i.e. the gap between the bow and the hair must be very less about the width of a pencil. Use small amount of rosin on bow before using the violin to play. Rosin need to be taken in left hand and put the bow hair in the rosin and then move forth and back the hair on rosin. Use a clean cloth to rub or clean the instrument every time after playing it. Make sure you clean it gently and use only soft cloth.
Store the instrument in safe and secure place after using it.Avoid storing the violin in extreme harsh condition and locations. Polish is rarely required here but you can use simple polish for making it more clean and shiny.Proper care of this musical instrument would surely increase its longevity and increase the sound quality.
