The Most Effective Therapy

The Most Effective Therapy

Hypnosis brings us into more resourceful states of mind and brainwave frequencies which have a profound effect on how we think, act and feel. This is the easiest way in the world to bring about change in ones state of mind, ones habits, to reduce stress or stimulate one to achieve their true potential.

Continued Prejudice and Pseudo Hypnosis

Because of the prejudices involved many main stream practitioners present Hypnosis under a multiplicity of other pseudonyms. At the turn of the 20th century one was called the ‘Janet method of relaxation' followed by the ‘Pierce method', and the ‘DuBois method'. More recently we had Jacobson's progressive relaxation. At present ‘Autoconditioning', ‘Autogenic training' and the ‘Sylva Method' have become popular. Other convenient labels for Hypnoanesthaesia are the Russian ‘Psychoprophylactic Relaxation' and ‘Read's Natural Childbirth'.

Hypnosis Theories

There are many theories of Hypnosis. Hypnosis may be described as an increased susceptibility to suggestion, as a result of which sensory and motor capacities are altered to initiate a desired behaviour. Pavlov, the Russian physiologist, is as well known to Russian scientists for his research on Hypnosis as for his work on conditioned reflexes. Pavlov said that words and ideas acquire a conditioned meaning for us. Conditioning is only a part of Hypnosis. Both this and Pavlov's idea of cortical inhibition are far too simplistic attempts to explain the Hypnotic phenomenon. Pavlov was demonstrably incorrect in his assumption that Hypnosis was a modified form of sleep.Ferenczi, the psychoanalyst theorized that Hypnosis was a regression to infancy. This theory is not tenable as the wide spectrum of Hypnotic phenomenon can demonstrate otherwise.

Robert White claims that a person in HH Hhhypnosis acts as he thinks he should act. He calls this "meaningful goal-directed striving." This may be true to some extent - for the induction of trance - but it fails to explain how a child, who knows nothing about meaningful experiences, can be hypnotised and manifest the phenomena of Hypnosis. Neither does it explain how an adult can be regressed to infancy. Regression can be validated and substantiated by the elicitation of the Babinski reflex, which occurs only during the first year of life.

Janet's theory contends that a part of the personality is split off to produce dissociation. This fails to explain many types of behaviour manifested in Hypnotized subjects. All individuals are not dissociated. The best theory of Hypnosis is a one phrase simple definition which says: ‘suggestion, acceptance and repetition'. Everything else you learn will be a modification, amplification, emphasis, variation, and explanation of these three basic ingredients.

Theoretical Shortcomings

Most theories fail to separate the induction process from the Hypnotic state. They are different entities. In Hypnosis the phenomenon cannot be separated from the total realm of human behaviour. Hypnosis is a natural part of everyday life. We all experience Hypnosis tens of thousands of times without recognized it as such. For example, a fisherman may find that the constant shimmering and dancing of the water lulls him into a trance like state. That is one of the joys of fishing. A driver may arrive at a destination on automatic pilot and wonder how he got there. Most drivers have experienced this.

So what is Hypnosis?

While Hypnos is a Greek word meaning sleep it is important to emphasize that hypnosis is not sleep or a sleep like state. EEG or Electroencephalographic tests of reflexes, circulation time, and blood pressure during Hypnosis show themselves to be identical to the waking state. They are completely different from the sleep state.

The only thing Hypnosis and sleep have in common is that they can both be described as altered states of awareness. Although completely different, one may merge into the other. The closing of the eyes close out visual stimulation; as a result, there is more concentration on the Hypnotists suggestions. Music lovers who wish to concentrate on listening to the music may put their heads back and close their eyes to hear and enjoy the music better.

Communication

There is a continual process of communication going on at all times between us and the total environment. Words and gestures and other stimuli can be interpreted only in terms of memory experiences. Hypnosis facilitates the learning processes for it enables suggestions to be accepted uncritically. This affects responses in the organism.

Finally, to understand the very nature of Hypnotic responses requires understanding of human nature. As practitioners we are interested in understanding Hypnosis; we are more interested in understanding how it fits into the framework of human behaviour and how it can be used to influence it.

Natural Hypnotic Inductions

Any repetitive visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, or gustatory sensation can induce a Hypnotic state with increased susceptibility to suggestion. Certain verbal and nonverbal stimuli can readily produce trance when repetitively maintained. We all have memories of sitting in a classroom while the teacher or lecturer droned on and on monotonously. As a result we drifted off into trance. Our eyes got very heavy and our head began to nod, and we actually went into a Hypnotic state. This sometimes merges into sleep. However they are completely different states.

Everyday Hypnosis

Hypnosis and suggestion play a natural and important role in everyone's life, especially in advertising. A radio or TV commercial which is repeated over and over creates a conditioned stimulus affecting our behaviour toward the advertiser's desired response. That is why tens of millions of Euros are spent every year in advertising. If it didn't work pragmatic commercial interests would not waste this money. It pays rich rewards because it works.

Animal Hypnosis

Hypnosis can be observed through out the animal kingdom. A snake hypnotizes a bird with its sinuous movements. In turn a snake can be hypnotized by stroking. All of us have seen pictures of or heard about the flute player who "charms" the snake into a sort of hypnotic-like state. It is the to and fro motions of the flute and the finger movements that induces the hypnotic-like state in the snake. Snakes are deaf. If you place a chicken's head on the ground and draw a chalk line next to the eye closest to the ground the chicken will fixate on the line and become immobile. If you put a chicken's head under its wing the chicken's limbs will immediately become rigid. These are all examples of animal Hypnosis.

HYPNOSIS THE KEY TO THE SUBCONSCIOUS

What is the secret of Hypnosis as a successful tool for change, for therapy and for unlocking ones true potential? Hypnosis is a simple way of bypassing the limitations of the conscious mind. Between the conscious and the subconscious there is a barrier called the critical faculty of the conscious mind. Hypnosis bypasses this and allows direct communication at the subconscious and the unconscious levels. The programmes that run all automatic processes and habits can then be communicated with, influenced and dealt with directly. All other therapies engage the conscious mind to effect change at the subconscious level and that makes them about as effective as polishing your car to charge your battery.

DO YOU WANT A BETTER LIFE?

If you want to improve the quality of your life in any way Hypnosis is the quickest, most effective and most enduring way to achieve permanent change. Any good hypnotist will do a proper evaluation of your requirements and as a result he/ she will tell you how many sessions you need to achieve your desired outcome or result. Beware of therapists who cant tell you how many sessions are required or how long it will cost to give you the results you want. There are unscrupulous Psychotherapists and Psychoanalysts who will happily keep you coming back for the rest of your life. They see you as an addition to their blue chip pension scheme rather than someone they can help. Anybody who cant tell you how many sessions are required are not in the therapy business. They are in the fraud business. They wont lighten the burdens of your mind but they will lighten your wallet on a weekly basis for as long as they can get away with it. So if you want to change your life for the better, do what Rachmaninoff did. Do what  Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods did to keep them at the top of their golf. Do what Kevin Costner did.

Samuel Jackson, Ellen Degeneres, Drew Barrymore, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon stopped smoking with hypnosis; Jane Pauly was hypnotized on her show and explained the benefits of hypnosis. For honest, safe ,quick and effective change hypnosis is the best way.
